Why is the date of the party on the Thank You Card oredated from when I made my donation?

It is possible that you were sent a card from a child who had a party from before you made your donation. This is because of how our Circle of Giving works:

We don't run to India or China after every $54 donation and manufacture a kit.

We pre-manufacture 5000 party kits and hand them out to our volunteers who run the parties using them.

The Thank You cards are sent back to us after the parties are held. When they come in we send them out to whoever has made a donation.

We can receive a card in the mail sometimes 6 months after the party. If we didn't raise the funds needed for the manufacturing we wouldn't have kits to hand out.

It is the sourcing of a lot of small donations that enable us to run this operation. You should know that without your help and the generosity of many others like you we wouldn't be able to run this Circle which till today has given over 25,000 children their very own birthday party.

ONLINE DONATIONS

I made a donation online and didn't fill in the information about my honoree. Can this be added?
Yes! Just send an email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will add any information to your donation form.

When I make a donation in someone's honor, do they receive something telling them of the gift?
Yes. As soon as your donation is received we send a beautiful acknowledgment card to your honoree that notifies them of your gift and tells them to expect a Thank You card from the Birthday Child in the mail in a few weeks.

I found it difficult to use the online Paypal form. Can you walk me through it?
On the website, under the "Donate Now" button is a link to instructions for making an online donation. If this is still too confusing, you can send a check. Go to the "contact information" button for mailing information.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

How long does it take from the time that I make a donation before I receive a Thank You card from the Birthday Child?
That's a great question. Between November and July this usually takes around a month. Since the parties happen mostly over the school year, there are a few months when the children don't meet, so there are no parties. It can take about two months to receive a card between August and October.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Is there any sort of volunteering that you manage locally?
Yes and we could use your help too!  bring Birthday Angels to potential communities where you live. If you would like to help our Circle of Giving branch out into schools Synagogues and Youth Movements and the community at large as a great cause for their tzedakah work, contact us for materials that make us easy to explain and excite people as well.

HOW TO USE THE PARTY KIT?

I was wondering if you would like to do a hachshara for birthday parties at my youth movement, Noam. Then we could run a party for you!
For our Israeli Angels: If you would like to volunteer to run a Birthday Angels Party for a needy child please feel free to contact us and we will supply you with the kits and teach you how to use them too.

CAN YOU SEND US PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS?

My class has chosen Birthday Angels as their tzedakah organization for our annual tzedakah fair. Is it at all possible for you to send flyers / information / pictures about the organization so that we can put them up on our poster? It would be really helpful in order to gather the most attention from families!
Edith sobel is the one who will be happy to provide you with all the materials you have requested. And, todah rabah for including us in your fair. You can e-mail Edith at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

CAN I VISIT A PARTY WHEN I AM IN ISRAEL?

I just donated my first $54 to the birthday angels. I would like to see one of these parties in action. Could you please invite to one.
Please let me know about a month ahead of time and where in Israel you will be staying. I will try my best to arrange a party that you can see for yourself.

CAN I SPONSOR A PARTY TO CELEBRATE A HOLIDAY?

I received my first photo and thank you from a party we sponsored! What a great feeling!! I had an idea to pay for parties in honor of a couple of my friends for Chanukah this year. Is this possible?
If you want a holiday gift to arrive on time, make your donation at least a month before the date of the event or occasion.

CAN MY HONOREES BE CONSIDERED THE SPONSORS OF THE PARTY?

Could I just send a check and ask that their names be used instead of mine as the sponsor of the party?
Yes. Inform us the full name and address of your honoree and they will receive the Thank You card as sponsors of the party. You'll get a card from us when the party has been held with the name of the Birthday Child so that you will know that your gift has come full circle.

CAN I KNOW THE CHILD'S NAME BEFORE THE PARTY?

Can I know the name of the child before the party?
We give the Thank You cards to the Angels as they come in. We assign a card to the donors on a first come first serve basis. We don't know the name before we receive the cards.

CAN THE SPONSOR RECEIVE A COPY OF THE THANK YOU CARD?

Can you send a copy of the Thank You card to both the donor and the honoree?
Yes. We scan every Thank You card that we receive. It is less costly for us to send this to you by email. However, upon request we will provide a color copy of the Thank You card.

EXPECTATIONS FROM THE THANK YOU CARDS

I am a Jewish educator in Aspen Colorado. I was made a Birthday Angel as a gift and I went to the website to read more about it.I got very excited and awaited the Thank You card which arrived today. It didn't have a photo or a picture and just one line written in Arabic which I appreciate that you translated.
On the site, you show much more elaborate pictures.I really want to promote the program with my students. I just want to help set reasonable expectations before I launch the idea of this option to them.
In trying to clarify my question, I may have come up with my own answer:"Some of you may get photos, some may not. Some of you may get messages or pictures, some may not. But you all chose to do a wonderful mitzvah."
Indeed, 8 years old is not too early to introduce Rambam's ladder and challenge them to climb a rung on the levels of tzedakah. One does not need to know/see the recipient of one's giving.
I had many reasons for including the Thank You card in this project. Foremost, I wanted the Angels to taste the joy that "giving" creates. I had the cards designed so that even if the child wrote very little, the card itself would be decorative. In fact, some of the children only sign their name and don't invest a lot into decorating the card. In many cases, this is a reflection of the poverty of their inner world. This is why enrichment of the soul is so desperately needed for these children.
Secondly, sending a Thank You card is a cultural anomaly. You don't know how foreign the concept of "Todah", thank you, is for the Israelis. They don't send thank you notes after weddings or Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, which, as an American, always shocks me. Some get it more than others. It is our hope that experiencing a birthday party is an invaluable opportunity for the children to whom we are reaching out.
You can turn the "less elaborate card with no photo" into a teachable moment. It is also a lesson to the "North Americans" that the Thank You cards are new to these kids. Learning cultural differences and adjusting expectations is a valuable lesson for the giver. Putting pen to paper at all is monumental for some of these kids. When a North American kid gets a simpler card, its significance should be weighted with the understanding of just how much effort went into that simple card. More elaborate cards can be seen in a whole new light. They will really "WOW" the recipient!

CAN I RECEIVE THE ADDRESS OF THE BIRTHDAY CHILD?

Will the donor also receive an address if it wishes to write back to the birthday child?
I can usually track the information of the child through the mentor.I will be glad to provide the connection if you should request. This has been done several times when the donors wished to send more gifts and develop a pen pal relationship with the child.

CAN WE SPONSOR A PARTICULAR AREA OR SCHOOL?

Can we concentrate the donations in one town, school or area, and along with it, establish some kind of communication between our kids and the Israeli kids?
We can try to direct your donations to a particular area or through continued contact on an individual basis with each child. I can track the email and phone information of the mentor who can put you in contact with the child. This is a welcomed opportunity for creating a pen pal relationship.
